Instagram Insanity

Unless you’ve been living on another planet for the past few weeks, you know that Facebook bought the photo-sharing app Instagram for one billion dollars. But what’s really caught my attention is what other people are doing with Instagram. Check ‘em out:

Casteagram

Casetagram is a social design service where you can create iPhone case from your Instagram photos! Just connect with Instagram to import your photos, create your own design using one of Casteagram’s templates, and then they’ll print and ship it straight to your door. I made one for Boyfriend and he loves it (I think)!

StickyGram

StickyGram is a personalized printing service that turns your Instagram images into lovely little 50mm x 50mm magnets! You create your pack of nine online and they deliver them to your door.

Instaprint

Instaprint is a location-based photo booth for Instagram. A what? Basically, each Instaprint box is set with its location or a specific hashtag. Any Instagram photo tagged with that location or hashtag will pop out of the Instaprint box—watch:

Socialmatic

Socialmatic is a real-life Instagram camera! It features an interchangeable lens, onboard printer, touch screen, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a steel-banded, 2-D build, the Socialmatic feels like a cross between a Polaroid and an iPhone 4. As of now, the Socialmatic is only a concept, but I love it!

    The Avengers

Boyfriend and I saw The Avengers over the weekend. It was A-MA-ZING! And then I came across this photo examining what the film’s promotional imagery would look like if the male Avengers had to pose like the female one. Definitely makes you think about gender roles in advertising. What would Don Draper say?

      Remembering Maurice Sendak

This is how Maurice Sendak, author and illustrator of “Where The Wild Things Are,” sometimes sent his letters. Just imagine getting one!

His book, which was one of my absolute favorites as a child, was simultaneously genre-breaking and career-making for Sendak when it was first published in 1963. He passed away this morning and the Internet is bustling with commemoration and praise. Here’s a roundup of the reverence:

A great New Yorker profile of Maurice Sendak by Cynthia Zarin and a Vanity Fair profile by Dave Eggers with portrait by Annie Leibovitz.
An extraordinary Colbert interview with Sendak from this past January.
Maurice Sendak provides PBS with insight into his work and inspiration.
Watch the trailer for the 2009 film adaptation of “Wild Things” and the documentary “Tell Them Anything You Want,” both by Spike Jonze.
Complete obituaries on NYT.com, Huffington Post, and The Washington Post.

May the wild rumpus never end.

        Place Cards

My birthday is on Friday! And I’m going for brunch the following morning with a group of girl friends who don’t all know each other, so I’m thinking of making place cards. I did a bit of browsing and found some fun ideas:

Not sure what I’ll end up doing (maybe Table Topics?), but I’ll keep you posted. See more ideas after the jump!

Arizona and California were nice, but I’m just too happy to be back in New York.
